APHA Tracking Federal Impacts on Public Health

Feb 3, 2025 | Advocacy

As an organization focused primarily on Vermont-specific public health issues, it can be hard to keep up with the new administration’s myriad and fast-moving attacks on the country’s public health infrastructure.

It is at times like these that our affiliation with the American Public Health Association (APHA) becomes indispensable.

VtPHA is an official partner and state affiliate of APHA. This is a mutually beneficial and reinforcing partnership. We benefit from APHA’s national advocacy and networks, while APHA relies on us for state-specific insights, networking and needs assessments. Perhaps most importantly, APHA connects VtPHA to 50 other state affiliates who connect on monthly coordinating calls to compare notes, share resources, and support one another.

Given the pace and scale of federal disruption – evidenced so painfully during the hastily announced and quickly rescinded order that froze federal grants – VtPHA will use this blog post to share important APHA news, announcements, and calls-to-action for those Vermonters looking for a way to engage at the national level.

There is much work to do, and the only way we can do it is through effective partnerships and coordination. If you are reading this blog, we hope you are a member of VtPHA. If you have the financial resources and wish to engage at the national level, we hope you will also consider a membership with APHA.
