Upper Valley Advocacy Training: Advocating for Our Upper Valley Public Health Priorities

Wednesday, March 4, 5:00 to 8:00 pm

Kilton Library, West Lebanon, NH

Learn how to effectively advocate for public health issues in NH and VT! This training will provide an overview of how a bill becomes a law (in both states!) and when and how to get involved in that process. We'll cover best practices for engaging with legislators, how and why to bring a personal story into your advocacy message, and practical advocacy skills like testifying at a public hearing, calling your legislator, and writing a Letter to the Editor. Leave feeling more empowered to take action on the issues you care about and make change in your state!

Facilitators:

  • Pedro Altagracia, Community Engagement Coordinator, New Futures, New Hampshire
  • Helen LaBun, Vermont Public Policy Director, Bi-State Primary Care Association

To Register

Why should you attend – and encourage others to sign up, too?

  • PHC seeks to increase our ability to communicate with our government representatives on the public health priorities affecting our region. We are doing work we care about, serving people we care about, and making sure our representatives understand how public policy affects our ability to serve is critical.
  • We operate in a bi-state environment when most of our legislators focus on issues within their own state. PHC hosted the first Bi-State Legislative Breakfast last fall in an effort to bring our legislators together in a discussion of issues that cross state lines. This training will help you become part of what we hope is an ongoing conversation with our representatives.
  • We will provide a light supper to keep you going after a long day!
