Hi! My name is Emily Stetson and I am a senior at the University of Vermont! I’m receiving my bachelors in Public Health Sciences and a certificate in Integrative Health and Wellness Coaching. I grew up in upstate New York seeing the wide disparities in health access and was passionate about making an impact on communities. I have a passion for upstream health interventions and have spent time in schools working in health education and curriculum. In my free time I enjoy reading on my porch and swimming in the summer. I’ve been working with VtPHA on Public Health advocacy and am so excited to see what I can do! After graduation, I want to move into working as a Health Educator!
Combined project description:
With another student, we are promoting APHA’s National Public Health Week (NPHW) through a student-based advocacy lens. NPHW was created by the APHA and is meant to celebrate and promote public health efforts across the country. Each year, APHA designates a theme that is accompanied by campaigns and resources to educate the public, policymakers, and healthcare professionals on the selected topics.
The themes for NPHW this year are:
- Ready. Set. Action: Government Partners
- Ready. Set. Action: Scientific Advancement
- Ready. Set. Action: Community Leadership
- Ready. Set. Action: You Partner With Public Health
Our main role at VtPHA is to organize and plan a student advocacy day that provides university students across Vermont with an opportunity to collaborate and share their perspectives on public health issues with legislators at the State House in Montpelier, VT. We are also working on researching Vermont-specific information related to the annual NPHW themes.
